Newburyport Yankee Homecoming Parade

Sunday, Aug 08

Meet at Rupert A Nock Middle School, Low Street Newburyport at 11:30am. The parade is at noon. There is parking on side streets.

New England Artist Jack Frost wrote in his volume Yankee Homecoming 1958, "It seemed that children and adults should be invited to see where "history was made". That year, Newburyport joined twenty nine other cities and towns in Massachusetts to celebrate Yankee Homecoming Week. Today, Newburyport is the last city to continue down this colonial trail of tradition, a week-long celebration ending with a grand Yankee Homecoming Parade down historic High Street.

Join Extinction Rebellion Emergency Everywhere Newburyport as we accompany the parade in XR Winds of Change style to sound the alarm around the Climate and Ecological Emergency. EE Newburyport Rebels have been working for nearly one year to raise awareness and call on the City of Newburyport to Declare a Climate and Ecological Emergency. Yet, Newburyport's Mayor and Council are steadfast in their refusal to declare. Let's use our collective voices to shout it out - Climate Justice Now!

Action wear: Wear all white. Wear XR patches.
