XR Boston stands by the fourth demand for a just transition
Each Extinction Rebellion chapter has three demands. In the United States, most chapters include a fourth demand. The fourth demand reads: “We demand a just transition that prioritizes the most vulnerable people and indigenous sovereignty; establishes reparations and remediation led by and for Black people, Indigenous people, people of color and poor communities for years of environmental injustice, establishes legal rights for ecosystems to thrive and regenerate in perpetuity, and repairs the effects of ongoing ecocide to prevent extinction of human and all species, in order to maintain a livable, just planet for all."
Extinction Rebellion Boston believes that since our country was founded on the genocide of indigenous peoples, slavery, and racism, we must demand a just transition that protects and cares for the most vulnerable and exploited populations. We believe that climate justice and social justice are inextricably linked.
The Climate and Ecological Crisis is a true emergency, and the coronavirus pandemic is revealing the catastrophic ineptitude of our government to respond to global crises. As always, Extinction Rebellion MA stands by our principles, working tirelessly to accomplish our four demands to help ensure a safe, just, and livable planet for ourselves and future generations.
Extinction Rebellion Boston remains its own autonomous entity, collaborating directly with other local and international chapters of Extinction Rebellion. No chapter is subordinate to another. Each is autonomous and has independent decision making capacity. We build collective power by collaborating with each other.
