[Solidarity] Climate Strike for the Climate Frontlines

Friday, Sep 24

This is a collaborative, youth-centered, intergenerational event organized by members of the Massachusetts Youth Climate Coalition (MYCC) and their adult allies. The effort is led by Fridays for Future MA, in concert with other strikes occurring around the world on the same day.

Theme: We seek to center people disproportionately affected by the climate crisis, in both our demands and our speakers.

When: September 24th 2021, starting at 3 pm

Where: starting at the Boston Public Garden at the Make Way for Ducklings statue

What: socially distanced, masked gathering in the Public Garden, march to the Statehouse, frontline speakers

Demands: As members of the most impacted generations, MYCC asks participants to join us in demanding that decision-makers 1. Create, fight for, and execute climate justice policy inclusively and transparently 2. Center environmental justice by dismantling racism, classism and other systems of oppression 3. Precisely set and enforce bold, science-based renewable energy targets 4. Equitably fund a just transition with progressive taxation and corporate polluter fees 5. Reform climate and civics education standards to empower equitable youth participation These demands come directly from and are further explained by MYCC's Policy Principles. From these principles, we have identified these specific State Level Policy Priorities and Endorsements. These priorities overlap greatly with the adult-led coalition spaces we collaborate with: Mass Power Forward, Green Future Now, MA Renews Alliance and more. If you would like to add to or otherwise alter these demands, please send your ideas to divyalnandan04@gmail.com and eben@ourclimate.us. Sign up here

PLEASE WEAR A MASK Due to the Delta variant of the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask: EVERYONE to WEAR A FACE MASK REGARDLESS of vaccination status. Extra masks will be provided, but please wear and bring your own if you have one to decrease the extra waste from the environment!
