[Justice Solidarity] Say Their Names

Tuesday, Jul 07

As a way to shine a light on the cruel injustices and violence in our country, and to stand in solidarity for the hundreds of innocent black lives taken, we organized “Say Their Names”.

Our event is a peaceful, socially-distant demonstration that will be held at the intersection of Commonwealth and Lowell Avenue, right next to Newton City Hall. We will gather in the middle of the street, and then march to City Hall, where we’ll hear from a long list of incredible speakers. The goal is not only to educate people attending the demonstration, but to cause a disruption in traffic. We want to make sure that even people passing by on the busy intersection will have to stop and listen to our message.

July 7th is an important day in the Black Lives Matter movement, as it marks the economic blackout, where Americans are strongly encouraged to limit their economic spending to only black-owned businesses. We chose to schedule our demonstration on July 7th because it will shine light on the idea of the blackout movement, and will only help ensure the economic disruption that the blackout is looking for.

It has been over a month since George Floyd’s brutal murder, and our fight cannot stop. We hope that people will not only become informed after attending our demonstration, but be inspired to organize more protests, marches, and other events of their own. *MASKS ARE REQUIRED, WEAR ALL BLACK*
