Climate Change is Scary Bike Ride

Saturday, Oct 31

RESCHEDULED: The weather has taken a turn for the worse. This event has been moved from Friday at 630pm to Saturday at 130pm. We are expecting clear skies and 40 degrees. See you on Halloween!

There's nothing scarier than wildfire smoke darkening our skies, sea-level rise and record-breaking hurricanes flooding our cities, and extreme drought threatening our food supply. Join Extinction Rebellion and Car-Free Boston for a Halloween bike ride to demand action on the climate and ecological emergency.

We will meet at City Hall, Cambridge. This approximately 7-mile ride will be a slow and mostly flat route through Cambridge and Somerville. This bike ride will follow the Climate Change is Scary Parade -- we'd love to see you at both!

This is a protest, but also a party! Costumes highly encouraged! LEDs highly encouraged! Sound bikes highly encouraged!

We demand:

  • Cambridge and Somerville must tell the truth. This means creating and publicizing annual carbon reports, teaching every public school student about the climate and ecological crises, and actively collaborating with the media to raise awareness.

  • Somerville must declare Climate Emergency now. Cambridge must take drastic action consistent with the Climate Emergency declaration it made 10 years ago.

  • Cambridge and Somerville must prioritize safe carbon-free forms of transportation, especially walking and biking, and reduce space and infrastructure devoted to private car ownership.

Accessibility

We will ride at a slow and manageable speed in the road.
